6 Basic Principles For Protecting Yacht Engines
1. Preventive maintenance of the engine
Good maintenance can maintain high engine productivity, control luxury personal pleasure yachts operating costs, extend equipment life, shorten downtime, and increase the value of old machinery.
2. Follow the maintenance schedule
The maintenance time can be calculated according to the number of engines operating hours or fuel consumption. It is divided into maintenance when needed, daily maintenance, 250-hour maintenance, 250-hour maintenance, 500-hour maintenance, 1,000-hour maintenance, every 2000 hours of maintenance, every 3000 hours of maintenance, every 6000 hours of maintenance in eight stages.
3. Pay attention to the use of lubricating oil
The lubricating oil can reduce the friction between the surface of the parts, reduce the wear and friction power loss of the parts. Take away part of the heat absorbed by engine parts and metal abrasive particles and other impurities to clean engine parts. Neutralize acidic substances to prevent them from corroding engine parts and prevent engine parts from rusting.
4. Avoid cooling system failure
More than 50% of engine damage is caused by the failure of the cooling system. The reasons for the failure are 1) Overheating, water pump leakage, radiator blockage, and cylinder liner cavitation. These failures can be avoided through proper maintenance. The maintenance of coolant is important to the life and performance of the engine.
Reduce cooling system failures and use correct starting procedures 1) After the engine reaches normal operating temperature, load the engine again. Remove foreign objects from the radiator and fan. 2) Check the seal on the radiator cover to ensure that the rubber seal is not damaged. Check the water pump for water or oil leakage every day. 3) Choose the correct coolant. The coolant consists of three parts: water + additives + glycol, which can prevent heat conduction, prevent boiling and freezing, prevent rust, prevent ore deposits, prevent cavitation, and resist foaming.
5. Maintain the fuel system
Compared with 30% in 1970, fuel costs now account for 60% to 90% of total engine operating costs. Fuel cost is a large expenditure during the entire use of the engine. Pollutants can enter the fuel from the outside and cause malfunctions. Even if it is invisible to the naked eye, it cannot be careless. Just a spoonful of dust in the fuel tank can damage a fuel injector in 8 hours. The correct maintenance of the fuel system is critical to the normal operation of the engine. Check the lid of the fuel tank and the vent pipe of the fuel tank when the engine is running and repair them in time. When repairing the engine, there must be a clean repair place, and all the disassembled pipes and openings should be covered.
6. Planned overhaul
Consider time (X) and cost (Y) of overhaul: 1. Planned maintenance and repair; 2. Unplanned maintenance and repair; For overhaul, consider the overhaul before failure. A planned overhaul before the failure occurs is meaningful, so that expensive unplanned shutdowns can be avoided; according to the standard of reusable parts, many original parts can be used; the life of the engine can be prolonged without major damage due to engine damage The danger of disaster; for every hour of life extension, a good cost/value ratio can be obtained. If the engine has to be disassembled due to a major accident, the engine block or crankshaft must be overhauled. Overhaul considerations: Factors that affect the time of overhaul: the implementation of regular maintenance lubricants, antifreeze and fuel, correct installation, operating environment, engine speed, and load.
